I care less and less what people think

What follows is a (rather long) entry about some recent site activity that I decided to post because of what happened to this woman. You've been warned. p

It inevitably happens every once in a while; someone weird decides to bug me here. In the past, while the anonymous comments have annoyed me for their chickenshit-ness, I tend to just let them slide. I don't really care if some stranger wants to bitch about how I suck on the interwebz and the only reason it bothers me at all is for the possibility that it's someone I'm nice to on a daily basis. Better the little shits you know, and all.

Anyway, some months back I got a random comment left on an entry by someone named "Jonathan." It was out of the blue and rude, but since the IP address came out of Chicago I didn't really care. I ignored it and went on with my life.

Then in January the same person came back to leave a new comment on my site pretending to be Kent. This irked me, but not for the reasons that the dipshit meant to.

If you need a refresher, Kent was my ex-boyfriend who committed suicide several years ago. As can obviously be expected, it was pretty insulting to come home from work and find this in my email:

New comment on your post #862 "cos I do 'em like, monthly, y'know?"
Author : Kent (IP: 208.53.138.224 , .)
E-mail : goneforever@yahoo.com

Since when can you grow a beard? Last time I fucked you you barely had any hair on your cock at all!

Wow, good job, someone can pretend to be a dead guy in order to harass someone else. -[) Not that it probably matters much to him, but Kent was someone else's kid. Someone else's kid who reads here often and probably really appreciated some moron with a vendetta using her son as an attack vector.

Anyway, back then I decided to blacklist the guy from commenting and sent a letter to his ISP with server logs. That seemed to have an effect because I wasn't bothered again until recently. More anonymous comments, same general IP address.

So I moved to step two. I scoured my logs to cross-reference all of his IP addresses and I blocked them both from commenting and even reading the site. That, too, worked, because the guy tried to repost a deleted comment from yet another IP address.

So this isn't some glorified commentary on the Internet Asshat Theory, nor do I care at all about "giving him attention." The guy hasn't provided any method of contact indicative of anyone with maturity or sense, so this is my email to him.

If you continue to fuck with me in whatever capacity you think you're fucking with me, it won't bode well for you. I've already been in contact with the ISP who's been very helpful thus far at giving me as much contact information about the server operator as I want. Any moment I'm about to get an email explaining how you manage to have six different IP addresses on a hosted server. Any moment I'm about to get contact information. Whether I then forward that on to the FBI's cybercrimes division in Illinois is entirely up to you.

You aren't bothering me. You aren't scaring me. You're not making me cradle my teddybear and fear for my life. You're making me roll my eyes and wonder how people can be so stupid; it really takes little effort to ban your various incarnations and were it not for the fact that I'm interested now to see who you are I wouldn't even be posting this.

So it's up to you. Mess with me if you think you've got some power here; I'm all too happy to show you whose kung fu is stronger.

Trouble in here

For those of you on the Second Life clusterfuck'd bandwagon, there's a weekend-long "convention" of sorts that begins tonight. The main event for the evening is the Second Life "SLebrity Roast" of Joshua Nightshade. 8-) I'm going to attempt to post some video of it afterward as well as a full chatlog of the "festivities" but nothing beats seeing it in person ofcourse! It starts at 5 PM PST/8 PM EST.

If you're already a member (or not but want to sign up– it's free!) click here to get to the event. In the meantime, here's some pictures of the setup before the big night.

Just an instrumental piece for you today.
