Lots of things!

Signed the lease. Got the keys today.

Spent the weekend in Chicago for the third annual Second Life Community Convention. It was fun even with the varying degrees of death threats (potential, manufactured or otherwise) that had been hovering like a black cloud over the whole thing.

But it went off without a hitch and was a lot of fun, even though I slept perhaps 13 hours between Thursday and Sunday, flew a regional jet into a thunderstorm that hovered over Chicago for two days and ended up plunging my hotel and O'Hare into a blackout (the former didn't let up after two days and we were put up someplace else eventually) and drank copious amounts of alcoholic beverages.

And kindof had sex with a girl. bloody

But I took lots of pics! Until someone spilled beer on my camera. ( I uploaded them to Flickr (cos I finally started using that silly contraption) and you can see all the SLCC07 photos here. My outfit for the masquerade ball that kindof closed the event (it was a "leather and lace" theme) got a lot of press actually. Reuters snapped some publicity photos that look like crap in (scroll about 1/3 down for my cheeky comment on the future of SL), I was also videotaped for ABC News and the Chicago Tribune. I figured since I make robots and stuff in SL I would get someone to build me a pair of robotic wings similar to what I actually make in world. Well, they were mighty-liked.

You can also see the preliminary photos I took of my new apartment here, which will get more pics added to it as I do more with the place. I also added a Flickr badge to the sitemap above.

I'm so antsy. I'm hoping to send painters in sometime this week, aiming to try and move this weekend if I can. I want to be moved in and set up ten minutes ago.

Showing off

I bought a new toy. 8

22" monitor, it's the size of a television and this picture does it no justice. I was stunned.

It\'s my melody

So Wednesday I go to sign the lease for my first apartment by myself, ever. It's a rather large studio in an interesting "up and coming" part of Brooklyn. I'm spoiled by where I live now, the neighborhood is so active and lively. I also have a great apartment itself, gigantic by New York standards and lacking either upstairs or downstairs neighbors. My new neighborhood won't be as hip unfortunately, but it's a beautiful area. When I got out of the train rows of Victorian houses surrounded me, and trees, my god. It looked like Long Island, not Brooklyn nor NYC.

I'm a little disappointed in leaving this area, as I have liked it a lot, but it's out of my singular price range and I won't really mind trading it for space I don't have to share with anyone but my cat.

It's also funny because the day I saw the apartment and decided on the spot that I wanted it was my four year anniversary since I moved into where I live now. Little over four years ago I was homeless, couch-hopping, without a cell phone or address. And now I'm making more than I ever have before and getting my own place. Funny, life.

So much work ahead of me. Occupancy is for September 1st but I'm not moving out of my current place "officially" until October 1st. I'll be out of town most of next week and it's just not enough time. So instead I'll ease my way in and take my time getting things ready.

Man. My first place. -)
