I debated on whether or not I was going to do it, or if I would wait until I got to Australia to buy one there, but ultimately impatience won out and the boyfriend and I got up at an ass-crack hour to stand in line. We were woefully unprepared for the amount of time it took, thinking surely five days after launch there wouldn’t be much of a line, but woah were we wrong.

In the end though it was really just the line-standing that was a pain. Once we were with a rep the process went pretty smoothly. I got the 16 gig version in white (after debating but ultimately I figured everyone else has black and the white one looks pretty cool) and the boyfriend got the 16 gig in black.

I have to say I really like the construction of the new one much more. The plastic back feels much nicer than the aluminum did and I fear scratching it up a lot less. The 3G is also such a welcome improvement.

But ultimately the big thing I wanted it for was the fixed headphone jack so I can use my own pair and not need an adapter.

For a few days, well, longer than that– for a long while I have mulled over “starting fresh.” My current site comprises the sum total of eight years’ worth of entries. In nearly a thousand posts, it holds memories of some of the most tumultuous parts of my late teenagedom and early adulthood. It’s eight years of stress, idealism, disappointment, change, excitement and happiness. It’s a lot of stuff to carry around with me. With the decision to relocate to Australia, I feel that I am closing the chapter on a part of my life that’s even more profound than the move to NYC. As such I feel that this site, which has been around through some of the highest and lowest of my life, should reflect that.

So with happiness earlier today I’ve done so. While in the middle of updating Wordpress to 2.6 I set up a secondary subdomain, moved all my old entries into it, and refreshed the layout to mark a distinction between the two.

The entries are still here, just separated. I could always reconstitute them some time later as I have in the past, but at the moment I don’t plan to.
